Maharishi School Students Win at Congressional Art Competition

First Place -AngieSeven out of the eleven winners at the Congressional Art Competition were Maharishi School students, winning 1st and 3rd place along with Special and Honorable Mentions for five students for their creatively exquisite artwork.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each Congressional District.

Maharishi School winners:

* 1st Place - Pearl Sawhney for “Angi”,
* 3rd Place - Sokhara Shreck3rd Place - Sokhara Shreck, “Untitled”,
* Special Mention - Mary Anderson, “Silvia & Will”,
* Honorable Mention - Avery Mullenneaux, for “Culvert”,
* Mollie Cutler for “Laya”,
* Chosie Titus for “Feet”, and
* Gabrielle Hathaway for “October”.

Pearl Sawhney and her parents will attend the formal hanging celebration on June 24th when her work will be placed in the Cannon Tunnel of the US Capitol Building. She will also attend a special reception with US Congressmen and have a special meeting with Congressman Loebsack. The other student winners will have their work displayed at Congressman Loebsack's offices in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City for two months.
