Dr. Richard Beall - Head of School

Richard Beall returned to Maharishi School in 2008 when he was appointed Head of School. He had helped establish the middle and upper schools in 1981 and served as administrative director, teacher, coach, and principal over the next ten years. He started the school’s sports program and helped achieve its accreditation with the state of Iowa and the Independent Schools Association of the Central States.
In 1996 he received his doctorate from Maharishi University of Management. His dissertation on the Science of Creative Intelligence curriculum for secondary education earned the Veda Vyasa Award as the university’s most outstanding of the year.
He next served as national director of Consciousness-Based Education, before founding the award-winning Carolina International School in Charlotte, NC, in 2003, which he directed for four years.
Richard is passionate about the field of education, with special interests in individual learning differences, global education, and the holistic effects of developing consciousness. He is honored to represent Maharishi School and its remarkable students, teachers, and families, and looks forward to an era of expansion and renewed commitment to “200% Sparkle” in every person and program.

Laurie Baumann - Dean of Girls School

Laurie BaumannLaurie Baumann attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas and Maharishi University of Management but feels that the greatest part of her education came from spending many hours with Maharishi and then exploring the field of education in light of Vedic Science. She became a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation program in Fiuggi Fonte, Italy, in 1972, at the inception of the Science of Creative Intelligence 33-Lesson Course and, subsequently, taught full time for many years. Before becoming the Dean of the Girls School, she spent several years as the Middle School Dean of Students and several more teaching SCI in grades 9, 10, and 12. The highlight of her teaching experience at Maharishi School is anytime she can help a student gain a deeper understanding of the nature of life and her role in the universe.

After 25 years of service to Maharishi School, Mrs. Bordow comments, “I still wake up every morning excited to spend my days with the precious children and devoted staff at Maharishi School. By focusing our attention on the strengths of each child and seeing their natural potential unfold through their daily practice of meditation, it is exciting to see an educational system that really works. Our children have a strong sense of who they are and through Consciousness-Based education we are developing future leaders. I love being a Pioneer!”
