Pioneer Boys Sweep Fort Madison Tuesday

FORT MADISON — New Indian School wrapped up its perfect dual season with a 9-0 victory over Fort Madison on Tuesday.

The clean sweep handed the Pioneers their eighth straight dual victory, and only the No. 4 singles match was close Tuesday.

No. 2 player Solaris Nite and No. 5 Chandre Morales had the Pioneers’ biggest victories in singles play. Nite earned a 6-0, 6-0 win and Morales won 6-0, 6-1. Sam Stickels picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, No. 3 Raphael Gelfand won by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, and Girindra Selleck rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 win. Surya Sawhney was pushed to three sets at No. 4, but he held off his opponent for a 7-5 win in the decisive third set.

In doubles action, all three of the Pioneers’ teams won handily. Stickels and Gelfand won at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0), Nite and Morales picked up a win at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), and Sawhney and Selleck were victorious, as well (6-1, 6-1).

The Pioneers conclude the regular season Saturday at the Ottumwa Invitational.
