Pioneer Boys Down Fort Madison

From the Fairffield Ledger--

The Maharishi School boys’ tennis team had no surprises in store for its fans Tuesday as it handled Fort Madison at Punj Tennis Center courts.

The Pioneers posted a clean 9-0 win for their seventh team victory in 2012 and dropped only nine games in singles action.

Pioneer senior Thomas Weiss, playing in his first match at No. 1 singles this season, took an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory. Freshman Sam Stickels had the most lopsided win, a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot. The duo also won in similar fashion at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Raphael Gelfand and Surya Sawhney both won at Nos. 3-4 singles and teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores David Fleshman and Avery Mullenneaux wrapped up the singles sweep with wins at Nos. 5-6.

In the closest match of the evening, David Fleshman and Solaris Nite edged Fort Madison’s No. 3 doubles tandem in a tiebreak. The Pioneer duo rallied for a 2-6, 6-2 (12-10) win.

The Pioneers’ regular No. 1 singles player, Sam Arsanjani, was out of action Tuesday.

Maharishi School (7-1) plays in the Ottumwa Invitational Saturday.
