Maharishi School To Be Featured on Canadian TV

A Canadian film crew spent four days in October visiting the Fairfield community while filming for a TV segment on Maharishi School.

The hour-long episode will be part of a series titled “Schools Like No Other,” which is featuring 26 extraordinary schools from around the world. It will air across Canada in early 2014 on TV 5 network, with approximately 9 million viewers.

The crew filmed classes at Maharishi School and interviewed several teachers. They filmed a Vedic Math class, a pottery class, and a Middle School project based learning class, in which the students deciphered a code to find the location of a treasure. They also visited several Lower School classes, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades, and interviewed several children in Ms. Asha Sharma's Sanskrit class.

The filmmakers primarily focused on two particular students: Middle School student Daniel Zhu and Upper School student Dia Huggins.They filmed Dia and Daniel in classes, their meditation halls.and in their homes. They also filmed the Men’s Dome, MUM campus, The Raj, and sesveral homes built according to Maharishi Staphatya Veda architecture.

The series is in French but each episode will also have an English version with voice over. The Maharishi School episode is expected to air in March.

The crew of four are part of a production company called Eureka Productions and included the director, the producer/owner, a cameraman, and the show hostess.

“They really appreciated our school and the naturalness and brightness of our students,” said Christine Albers, Director of Expansion.

Other schools featured will include a school for children learning Sumo wrestling, a Bollywood school, a Butler School, Beijing Opera school, and a boat school in which the kids take classes while at sea and study in countries around the world. Each episode features two schools. Maharishi School’s segment will be 30 minutes and will be on the same episode as the boat school.
