Maharishi School Soccer Team Wins First Game Against Scattergood

With the traffic of I-80 buzzing in the background, the Maharishi School Pioneers kept their focus and came away with a victory in their first soccer game of the season. Sixteen players and eleven supporters made their way to the pastoral and friendly campus of Scattergood Friends School for the contest on the last day of summer.

The match-up between two of the three ISACS high schools in the state have been competitive and friendly in the past. This game proved to be the same. Early on Kai Vessey took a powerful left footed shot that hit the cross bar and went hard down into the goal mouth. Emmy Quijano headed it in off of the bounce: 1-0 Pioneers. Scattergood came back with a goal and the teams played at 1-1 for a good part of the game. Kai struck again with the Pioneers second goal, then Bodhi Boucherle with the third. Scattergood brought the game to 3-2 before Emmy netted his second. The game finished 4-2 for the Pioneers.

Coach Owen Blake said the victory was a team effort. Defense was a strength, giving no good looks to Scattergood and then getting the ball up the field for the offense to strike. Caleb Mulleneaux was a big physical presence and defended all over the field along with Jeremy Marks and the rest of the defenders. Emmy was the fastest player on the field, picking up deep passes and scoring twice. Daniel Zhu, playing his first game in goal, was coming out, grabbing balls and playing aggressively. All in all, everyone contributed.

The Pioneers play Scattergood again on Tuesday, October 4th, 5:00, at home on the North Campus Village soccer field. All are welcome to come and support the team!
