Four teams from Maharishi School were judged outstanding at the Iowa High School Large-Group Speech Competition in Cedar Rapids on February 5. The following teams have been selected to perform at the Festival this Saturday, February 19 at ISU in Ames:
The students are coached by Brendan Thomas and Tatiani Ticciati, with special help from Matt Speers.
According to their website, the Iowa High School Speech Association is “built upon the belief that no form of activity is any more important than that of learning to speak effectively. All true Americans believe in educational enlightenment, but the effectiveness of each enlightenment may be lost through the inability of our people to express to others their ideas and beliefs.”
The performances will also be showcased in Fairfield at Spayde Theater March 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. With a 2:00 matinee on March 6. Tickets are available at the door for $8, students and $10 general admission. Reserved seating is available for $15 by calling (512) 632-8823. Last year’s showcase sold out almost every performance, so get there early to get good seats!
