Fairfield Showdown Belongs to New Indian School

From the Fairfield Ledger --

Govi Punj and Sam Stickels were the star attractions Monday in the boys’ tennis match between Fairfield High School and New Indian School of the Age of Enlightenment.

Stickels, a Pioneer, battled shot for shot with Punj, with the majority of the crowd singularly focused on their match. Punj held a 4-2 lead in the second set, but couldn’t hold on as Stickels made a charge and won the last four games of the set. Stickels would go on to win the match 6-3, 6-4. Both players are state contenders, so this likely will not be the last time they play against one another.

MSAE won the match overall 9-0. The first half of the match was played at Fairfield Middle School, but the match’s conclusion was moved to the Maharishi University Recreation Center.

Chandre Morales, David Fleshman, Avery Mulleneaux, Jordan Town and Caleb Mulleneaux each won their individual matches for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers travel to Keokuk on Thursday and Pella on Saturday. The Trojans travel to Southeast Iowa Conference rivals Fort Madison today and Mt. Pleasant on Thursday.
