Student Resources

Student Research

We recommend the following online databases which are provided for Iowa students by the state’s Area Education Agency. All of them require a user name and password, which is available from Kathy Shaw, Maharishi School Librarian at kshaw@msae.edu.

The following databases are available at www.iowaaeaonline.org:

  • Accuweather Premium – a weather web site which provides forecasts without ads, and also includes more than 10 years of historical weather data.
  • AP Images – A searchable collection of photographs from the Associated Press, dating back to the 19th century. These photographs are ideal for school projects because they can be downloaded for higher quality, and each photograph gives all available source information that is needed for bibliographies
  • Atomic Learning – Technology training for students
  • DE Streaming – This site provides full-length educational videos and clips that can be streamed or downloaded. It includes two separate services, Discovery Education Streaming (K-12) and Discovery Education Science (for K-8 science).
  • EBSCO – a database of encyclopedia, magazine and journal articles for student research
  • IClipart – contains royalty-free Clip Art and photographs that can be downloaded
  • Learning 360 – another source for educational streaming video
  • SIRS Issues Researcher – a database of information sources on important issues
  • World Book Web – The contents of World Book Encyclopedia available online, at three different levels (World Book Kids, World Book Students, World Books Advanced), and in three languages (English, Spanish, French). There are also special digital libraries for Living Green, Early Peoples, and Inventions and Discoveries.

Other resources available for students:

  • Soundzabound – a searchable library of royalty free music clips for student projects, available at www.soundzabound.com/ (uses same log in information as Iowa AEA Online).
  • Noodletoolswww.noodletools.com A resource that allows students to create and save bibliographies in MLA, APA and Chicago style formats, with online help and answers for citation questions, and a notecard function to help store and organize project notes.

Please contact Kathy Shaw for user name and password information at kshaw@msae.edu.
