The girls varsity basketball team began their season at Harmony on Tuesday night.

Harmony won a close game on Tuesday 49-45.

Game Report

The Boys Basketball team played at the English Valley Jamboree on Monday night but lost a close one to North English 23-20. This was the first time playing together in a game for this group of boys. The only starter from last year was Josh Posner and he is still recovering from ankle surgery. There were some excellent positives. John DeAngelis had a very active game offensively and defensively, was the top rebounder and scorer with 7 points. Josh and and Pasha both had 5 points on a three and a two. Joseph had a nice outside basket on a fine pass from Jordan.
First regular season game for the boys will be Tuesday at Holy Trinity. Girls start at 6:00pm followed by the boys.

The Girls team lost an exciting match against Regina on Friday night (36-29) at the Mid Prairie Jamboree. The pioneers were a little shaky at the start and fell behind 13-1, but made a stunning comeback and closed the gap to 29-26 with a minute remaining. (only 2 quarters are played at a jamboree)

Please note that the varsity schedules are now posted.

The girls varsity volleyball team came back from a 12-6 deficit to beat Danville 15-13 in a very exciting 5 game match.

The Pioneers defeated Danville 22-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 in a Super Conference South division match up. The pioneers needed to come back in both the 4th and 5th games to steal the victory. Maharishi School which tends to play defensively really stepped up their offense to display the level of volleyball that they will have to play to progress in the play-offs which begins on Wednesday October 22nd vs Cardinal at Eldon. The JV volleyball team also showed what they were capable of with impressive wins over West Burlington and Holy Trinity. The win over Holy Trinity was the first volleyball win over the perennial powerhouse in over 6 years.

The boys varsity soccer team has been involved in two very exciting matches in the past week.

The Pioneers have had 5 starters out with injuries yet have played magnificently. Down 3-0 against Cono on Friday they came back and almost tied the game. Peter Arnold and Pash Bouquet had two answered goals in the second half as the Pioneers fell short. The Pioneers had been without their top goalie and two top defenders. This meant that a number of rookies were asked to perform at a high level and although there are some holes in the defence coach Higgins is amazed at the quick progress of his younger players.

The Pioneers lost on Monday at Scattergood but again it was a great effort. The pioneers lost 5-4 in overtime. Maharishi School was up 4-2 after three quarters of the game but ran out of gas. Again the loss of a few key players increased the fatigue factor and this was the difference. Howsoever Coach Higgins has been very pleased and excited with the progress that he is seeing.

The Pioneers next game will be at Cono on September 30th.

The Volleyball schedule is now posted, and soccer will be posted soon.

This took place at the Notre Dame tournament on Saturday. Their winning matches were over Notre Dame, 21-23, 21-18, 15-12. and over Columbus Junction 21-11, 21-12.

The varsity girls volleyball team won their home opener in an exciting 5 game match against Central Lee (2A) taking the final game 15-12

Maharishi School Volleyball team ran into some stiff competition at the Danville tournament on Saturday. The Pioneers started off against 2 state ranked teams (Mediapolis and New London) and although they played well they could not pull off a victory. In the match in the elimination round the Pioneers fell to Danville on the 3rd and deciding game 17-15. The Pioneers had a match point at 15-14 but were not able to close it out.

The girls play Tuesday night in a triangular at home with Holy Trinity and West Burlington.

The Volleyball schedule is now posted, and soccer will be posted soon.
